Nancy Pelosi, the once – and she hopes future – speaker of the House is giving a boost to Democratic congressional candidate Lois Frankel just eight days before the Aug. 14 Democratic primary.

Pelosi appears Monday with Frankel in Boca Raton, the strongest signal yet from national Democrats that they expect her to be their standard bearer in the November election in the Broward-Palm Beach County 22nd District.

Currently the House minority leader, Pelosi will hold a town hall meeting on Medicare at the Veranda Club, an independent and assisted living facility in Boca Raton.

National Democrats have been signaling for months that Frankel, a former West Palm Beach mayor and former Florida House minority leader, is their preferred candidate for the general election matchup against former Florida House Majority Leader Adam Hasner, R-Boca Raton.

In May U.S. Rep. Steve Israel, chairman of the DCCC, issued a statement filled with praise for Frankel and backed up his words with action. He appeared at a West Palm Beach fundraiser for her campaign. Frankel also has the support of U.S. Reps. Ted Deutch, D-Boca Raton, and Alcee Hastings, D-Miramar.

Frankel is competing against Broward County Commissioner Kristin Jacobs in the Aug. 14 primary.
